The opening of B&Q Wandsworth, a new high street format store featuring a Design Studio, presented an opportunity for Valspar to highlight their paint mixing credentials. But with most shoppers heading straight to ready mixed paint, our task was to utilise feature space to disrupt this shopper behaviour.

The Approach

Valspar’s brand positioning is built on providing consumers with the confidence to choose a colour that is completely unique to them. Given the store would be catering to shoppers looking for that extra design inspiration we wanted to ensure the Valspar offering was immediately visible to them.

With a full back wall and mezzanine area available we used our extensive experience in retail POS to design and construct a feature display which would draw shoppers in the moment they entered the store.

Working closely with our print partner, we opted for a product called Ocean Tech. Ocean Tech is manufactured solely from recycled from plastic bottles and has the benefit of being hung like a wallpaper, which reduced installation time.

Valspar’s eye-catching geometric pattern complemented the new Design Centre, encouraging shoppers to really consider how they can use paint and colour to create their own unique style.

To further aid navigation for the paint mixing desk, we created a large 3D paint tub to complement the oversized installation and theatre of the display.

Happy Client

“Principles did a fantastic job creating an eye-catching, impactful store experience that inspired consumers to take on their own paint projects and try their own unique colour choice. The feedback we received from both consumers and store staff was 100% positive. Overall, Wandsworth has been recognised as one of our best executions in-store to date!”
